Cracking the nut and unconscious biases
As the world evolves from pushing on strings to trying to open the correct dam, assessing and addressing our unconscious biases is a must.   After clearing my mind this morning I found myself asking these questions, "How do we get around the immovable object that is the Baby Boomer generation and get the economy in a self-sustaining posture again?"  What was the unanswerable question of decades past has become the unconscious bias of today. How do you get the economy carrying its ow…

Recession/Depression Escape Strategy & Maybe an Answer to Wealth Inequality: Thought Experiment ...
I would like to propose a thought experiment...I literally thought of this 10 minutes ago, so it's a rough draft:     In order to stimulate the economy out of recessions/depressions, what if every citizen was given equal amounts of fiscal stimulus cash AND an equivalent debt payment credit at the same time (on regular intervals).  It may or may not require an expiration date...not sure yet.  I assume it would have to be a central bank cryptocurrency or something like that to make this work…

EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT INFLATION
@Steven Van Metre interviews Michael Ashton, founder of Enduring Investments. Ashton thinks that the Consumer Price Index is an imperfect metric but is nevertheless an optimal way to measure inflation. He argues that the extraordinary growth in money stock (induced by the Federal Reserve) will indeed augur inflation. Van Metre contends that various deflationary forces, namely the decrease in the velocity of money, will stop inflation in its tracks and could in fact bring deflation. CLICK TO WA…

    The Fourth Turning
I've been trying to read THE FOURTH TURNING because so many people, @Raoul Pal included, bring it up because of it's relevancy in the current world. Honestly, I've had a tough time reading it, it gets really slow and dense to me at times. I even downloaded the audio book hoping I could power thru it while driving/excercising but I keep zoning out. Anyway, I found today that Grant Williams did a three-part series last year with Neil Howe (one of the authors) and it is wonderful as is most of Gra…

Live with Nancy Davis and Jason Buck The saying “this time it’s different” is perhaps the most dangerous on Wall Street. Whether this shibboleth applies to the current markets is the question that Jason Buck, CIO of the Mutiny Fund, and Nancy Davis, CIO of Quadratic Capital Management, explore in this latest edition of Real Vision Live. Buck and Davis analyze historical volatility regimes and explore the value of cross-asset option portfolio construction. Davis discusses her interest rate volat…

A question for those pro bitcoin/pro fixed supply currencies in general:
How do you deal with the deflation that comes along with a fixed money supply?  First you must make the assumption that your fixed currency system worked perfectly, meaning no inflow/outflow problem. Now there is only x amount of money and therefore prices would not be increasing yearly due to inflation. But, the essence of technological advancement is increasing efficiency and it is therefore inherently deflationary. Better farming equipment means more corn per acre; a better tv means more pi…

Will China's (DCEP) headstart on CBDC and their move toward forming an East Asia digital currency (CN, JP, SK, HK basket) challenge USD hegemony in a meaningful way over the next 3-5 years? What role if any would an IMF digital SDR play in the ongoing digital transformation?

Market MOVEs with Harley Bassman and @"Max Wiethe" Harley Bassman is well known as the inventor of the MOVE index, the treasury volatility cousin of the VIX. Since he has “retired” he has continued to make a name for himself giving away decades of accrued wisdom for free on his blog The Convexity Maven. At a time when markets are selling-off hard and fast, just a few weeks ago we had equity volatility rising along with spot prices, and factors like presidential elections and Fed poli…

Robert Breedlove's discussion on bitcoin Robert Breedlove, CEO and CIO of Parallax Digital, argues that only two things in the universe are absolutely scarce – time and bitcoin. Until the invention of bitcoin, Breedlove says that gold had been the best monetary technology to transfer the value of time, but it is imperfect because it isn’t absolutely scarce. Bitcoin’s absolute scarcity, on the other hand, makes it the perfect monetary technology. He breaks down why the last two centuries of suc…
