Hi ya folks, trying to get my head around this topic...
So, for the sake of this conversation, let us define
Inflation = demand / supply (%)
And let us define
Money = production
And so
Debt = future production
But, we have productive debt and unproductive debt so
Productive debt = increased supply
Unproductive debt = increased demand
If so then we can define inflation as
Inflation = unproductive debt / productive debt (%)
I'm sharing because I'd really appreciate other thoughts.
and I'm reminded of my apprenticeship days working for a large defence contractor.
The product I was working on sat in an aeroplane and we had to test the product at altitude. We did this by putting product in a 'chamber', sucked the air out of the chamber (to simulate the altitude) and then ramping the air temperature up and down. I remember the engineer in charge of the chamber saying that it's almost impossible to control the temperature once you've sucked all the air out.
On our journeys we never know who we will meet and how we will react to them. Here we meet the most diverse creatures and we get to know each other. My feeling is we, here, are slowly warming to each other, getting to know our individual quirks, skills, beliefs, etc. and we are learning to value them.
For me, 2020 has been most of all a learning curve. Obviusly finance but this study has brought me face to face with prejudice I did't realise I had. Nothing is greater.
A recent RV survey had me answering "I feel like an idiot every time I post". This is because I'm not used to talking to people who actually know what they are talking about.
I post anyway with the hope that someone will enhance my understanding.
For those who have never posted, just go for it, we're all warming to each other and every contribution is appreciated.

As Raoul often says, bitcoin is "like nothing I've ever seen before". If so then how is it possible to perform technical analysis on it?
One way is to compare it to itself. The below graph shows the Dec 2017 peak with the recent price increases placed on top, with a bit of axis manipulation to help them match up.

Obviously there is a big assumption that this current wave will follow the same pattern as the previous peak and crash. Maybe this time it's different? If it's not different, we are approx. 12 days away from the peak.
The other question I have is, being as the holiday periods have seen big increases wheras 'working days' have not, what will happen on 4th January when the institutional folks get back to work? I suspect we'll see a big price move but I don't know in which direction.

@Ash Bennington , I've heard many times that RV doesn't have an opinion but this is clearly not true regarding crypto. What RV needs is someone knowledgeable in this space who has a more balanced opinion. Could you please please give a full length interview with our very own @Aaron Wise. I'd really like to hear his thoughts.

During December obviously the price increased but it was marked by frequent sharp drops. Was this institutional investors taking in their profits before year end?
If so, the price should increase without sharp drops over the Christmas holidays AND the price may jump dramatically on January 4th.
